1: Paper Heart - I've always loved this song written by Pat Brayer. Captures the essence of bluegrass.

2. The Old Road To Jerusalem - I begged Chris Stuart to let me record this one when he tracked the original demo in my recording studio in 2006. Inspired by a pub Chris saw while touring England called, Ye Old Trip To Jerusalem - supposedly where the crusaders stopped for refreshment on their way East (see picture). The song speaks of the love between a father and son.

3. Stonewall - I asked Christian to write a killer fiddle tune for the project and he really came through with this one! Named after the Civil War general "Stonewall" Jackson.

4. Love Has No Pride - I couldn't resist recording yet another version of this beautifully written ballad by Eric Kaz and Libby Titus.

5. Old Blue - Stole this version from a Mark O'Connor album with James Taylor singing lead. The combination of Taylor's soulful voice and feel with some of bluegrass's greatest virtuosos (Jerry Douglas, Mark O'Connor) made for a classic recording. Listen for my five year old son, Edwin, playing the finger symbols!

6. The First Train Robbery - Another Chris Stuart original that tells the historical story of the first train robbery in the U.S. that occurred near Seymour, Indiana. Thanks to Ron Block for some killer banjo and harmony singing!

7. Sweet Memory Waltz - A beautiful Byron Berline waltz that gave Christian the opportunity to play triple fiddles. Thanks to Janet Beazley for the great production work.

8. Undecided - We wanted Austin to have a chance to play some swing style bass solos and this wonderful old jazz standard was just the song we needed.

9. Life's Railway to Heaven - I have always loved the chorus on this traditional country gospel song. Thanks to Bud Bierhaus for the haunting high baritone vocal!

10. Pretty Little Miss - A classic Stanley Brothers duet with Bud and I singing.

11. Sidney The Pirate - A powerful evangelical gospel song written by Oden Fong. Even a terrible guy like Sidney is not beyond God's saving grace.

12. Edelweiss - We needed a waltz for Christian to play and wanted to arrange one that isn't heard in bluegrass circles. The melody was written by Rodgers and Hammerstein for the 1965 movie, The Sound of Music. I had the pleasure of walking through the old city of Salzburg, Austria (where the movie was filmed) while listening to the final mix of this song on my iPod. Twin fiddles, twin violas and bowed bass give an orchestral feel. Thanks again to Janet for the great production.

1: The Wandering Boy - I first heard the Stanley Brothers do this one and loved it!

2. Shenandoah Wind - Chris Stuart wrote this Civil War ballad and it was almost on his Angels of Mineral Springs CD but got cut at the last minute. I was thrilled to record it. It was on the bluegrass and folk charts through much of 2005. Thanks to Alison Krauss for the wonderful harmony singing!

3. Jamie Raeburn- I heard the Scottish band Ossian perform this traditional ballad at a concert in Missoula, Montana around 1990. I had always hoped to record it.

4. Lovers' Quarrel - My favorite Stanley Brothers waltz. Thanks to the incomparable Stuart Duncan for the perfect Stanley style fiddling.

5. Travels - Ron Block and I used to play this Pat Metheny guitar instrumental while touring in the 1980's The song lends itself to a traditional treatment.

6. Farewell for a Little While - Another Chris Stuart original that tells the sad story of a departed child. Perfect bluegrass fare!

7. If a Broken Heart Could Kill - I heard Keith Whitley sing this on an early album and was blown away! Captures the essence of traditional country music.

8. Is Your Heart Right With God - I always loved the melody of this eschatological gospel song written by Norman Wright.

9. Mansion on the Hill - I have been singing this classic Hank Williams song since I first heard it in the late 70's. Was happy to get the chance to record it.

10. Battle Cry of Freedom - I am often asked to play this song at performances. This was a battle hymn sung by Union soldiers during the American Civil War. The melody can be played slowly on a solo instrument to great effect.
